How to be a successful English teacher at junior high school

I took a Mr.Maruhashi's course last week. I could learn many important things from his speech. Especially, the following 2 points were impressive for me.

1. Mr.Maruhashi said, ‘teacher's job is changing students’. That is say, it is meaninless, if teacher can't change students within the class, for 50 minutes. I think that teacher must give good class to students. When teacher think things, they always should be student's shoes. For example, when teacher teach English to students, teacher must not teach argumentative English. When teacher teach grammar, teacher should make rules freely . Then students can understand it easily.
Mr.Maruhashi taught us one grammar rule to teach easily. He said, when teacher teach interrogative (Do you~? or Does he~?) , techer can explain that verb always have do or does, so when we make interrogative, hidden do or does appear. If teacher teach this grammar without rules, students are in trouble. I think that everything is not always logical!

2. Teacher must contrive class. For example, teacher can write words on the blackboard and paper. Students can understand English easily, if teacher use visual aid. And most important thing is giving the class pleasantly. When I was a junior high school student, my English teacher's class was very interesting! Moreover, her teaching was very easy to understand. My English teacher used blackboard and paper properly. For example, she used paper when she taught important parts.

I think teaching English to junior high school students is very difficult. But I want to be a successful English teacher just like my English teacher. So, I have to study how to teach English hard. Mr. Maruhashi's speech benefited me!

The reflection of micro teaching

I did micro teaching in last class. It was very difficult for me. I thought that teaching is very difficult.
The objective of my activity was that every student can join the class and get skills. I wanted to teach English pleasantly. And I wanted student who don't like English to like English.
When I was a junior high school student, I thought that the class that teacher teach English one-sidedly is very boring for students.
So, I thought that every student should speak English in the class. And, like this, if every student speak English, teacher can notice student who can't understand.

The micro teaching was very difficult. But, it was very good chance to practice teaching for me.
And, I understood that there are many students who have different character(student who don't like English, like English and so on) in class. In this environment, I think teaching English is very difficult. I want to study how to teach English hard.

Review of the communicative activities

Today, I am going to review two of the "typical Japanese junior high school"communicative activities presented in ETM 3. The activities I am going to revieware Information Gap and Using movement. You can view them here.
I want to improve these two communicative activities.
First, in Information Gap, I have a idea.
I think that junior high school students can't understand well when they study fictitious content. So, I want teach real things to students. Real things mean event that was happened on students just like ‘what were you doing at 7:00?’ For example, first, students make pairs. And, students ask their friends questions each other. And they answer the questions. Lastly, they write things that they can hear.

Next, I have a idea in using movement. I think that if I divide the class into two groups, some students may not be able to understand the content. What's more, the teacher may not notice this. So, I thought another way. First, teacher say ‘please open the window.’to a student. Students open the window. Next, the students say something just like ‘please close the window.’to another student. Like this, all students can move like chain reaction. If there are students who can't understand the content, teacher can notice it, and can teach again!

My favorite thing

My most favorite thing is going to live house and rock festival.
I like music very much.
It is no exaggeration to say no music, no life.
Music makes me happy!
And music makes me forget disgusting things. So, I always go to live house when I am tired.
In the Golden week, I went to live house and rock festival. It was very excited!
In the live house, I met a foreign people. He has long hair just like rock musician. I was very surprised when I hear his job.
According to the rumor, he is an English teacher as ALT. I think that he is very great! I want to be a person just like him.
When I have a job, I don't want to give up my favorite things! So, I will go to live house and rock festival from now on!
The favorite things makes human nature pregnant! It is music for me!

My stories of studying English in secondary school.

When I entered a junior high school, I did'nt know only simple English words. For example, word just like dog and cat. I learned basic grammar of English, how to pronounce, writing, and reading in junior high school.
In the class, we read textbooks and tried to understand the content. Also, we did role-playing when we read the textbook.
Last year of junior high school, we acquired the basic ability of English. For example, I could write self-introduction, simple questions, and simple greeting in English. So, my English teacher tried to improve our English skill more! She introduced American students to us as penpal. Then we write a letter in English and exchange. It was very fun for me to write a letter in English. I was looking forward to receive a letter from American friend. So, I think that it was most enjoyable and valuable language learning activity. Because I could appreciate studying English. Thanks to penpals, I came to like English. At this point, I decided that I study English hard and I want to be an English teacher.
So, if I teach English, I want to use this way, penpals. I don't want to teach only content of textbooks. And I think that my least enjoyable and valuable learning activity is nothing. Because I did'nt know anything about English, so all of activity is fresh and necessity for me.

Next, studying English in senior high school was mainly measure to pass the entrance examination.
In English class, there is a rule. English teacher and we had to speak only English. I learned English grammar and how to read long sentences of English fast.
In first year of senior high school, we checked meaning of a word by a dictionary soon when I come across an unknowing word.
But in last year of senior high school, English teacher said,“Don't check meaning of a word by a dictionary soon. Think the word's meaning from the content of back and forth!” I think that this way is most valuable language learning activity. Because I could read long sentences if there are unknowing words in the sentence.
And, my English teacher gave an English question to us everyday. We answered this question merrily. And we acquired knowledge of English day by day. This was very enjoyable.
Also, I think that my least enjoyable and valuable language learning activity is nothing.
But, I think that I did'nt get skill to speak English smoothly in both junior high school and senior high school. My studying English in secondary school was not practical.
So, if I teach English, I want to teach practical English.
